If these messages do get read, condolences on the loss of your beloved Monty, Mr. Hanks.

I'm still mourning over my little precious Princess, whom I lost 2 years ago.
I know there are people who don't and just wouldn't understand, but it's like the loss of a family member when you are so close to them.
Even though I've adopted two funny girls, I still cry over my babygirl. These two know. They come to comfort me when I cry over her.

People who never had or won't have a pet, just don't know the unconditional love they are missing.

Are you kidding me? The passing of a celebrity's dog is worthy of a news story?

When "news" is 24/7, yes. But, as said by other posters, pets become beloved members of families, and are truly missed when gone. If it doesn't interest you, why click on it and why respond?

And here we have the first mean person who has that need to express negativity and be a jackass! Dear karen the sad news is about a dog, Monty who passed away, who happens to be Tom Hank`s dog. So sad that while people are expressing their sympathies and probably remembering there deceased pets ,here we have people like karen, who says that this is not news worthy and yet took the time and effort to click ,read and write something mean about the death of a beloved pet.

Karen, do the world a favor and go jump off a bridge. How insensitive of you to post something like that. Mr. Hanks was kind enough to share with the world something private, the grief from the loss of a beloved pet/family member, and all you can do is make cold, nasty remarks. If you cannot understand why this is news, you do not need to read or post up about it. Go somewhere else the next time you feel sad and depressed and need the support/understanding of someone, because you won't find it here.

Karen, you hit the link, you read it, and you posted a snotty and hateful remark. If you've nothing useful or supportive to say then move along without carping about it. In the event you need assistance or happen to be lost, this is the Animal Tracks section. What else did you expect to find here? An update on the Costa Concodia? If so, you're sadly mistaken.

I agree wholeheartedly with Heather, Kapekodder, SWilliams, Bears, JesseJames and anyone else who would rather not read about the Kardashians and Joan Rivers-whatever-in-the-hell-she's-doing.

What is wrong with you Karen? People post on Facebook and other sites all the time about their pets. He just happens to be a celebrity and people take more of an interest in his life. What are you jealous? Is that why you are so snide and disrespectful of someone else's pain? What is wrong with people?

Are you kiddin', mybusiness...lol

People on fb post ridiculous things. "I'm sad today. My toilet paper didn't roll the right way", or
"I'm mad. My cabbage in Farmville didn't grow."
That's why, even though I opened an account, I don't feel a need to go there.

I agree with the rest. Karen is without feelings. Too bad she lives such a miserable life.

I know how it feels. I had to put down my lab with cancer two weeks ago. Its the roughest part of being a dog or cat lover. but when its their time, I go right in there with them, and pet them until they go. That's my job. That's what I do because I don't want them to hurt. We should be so kind to each other.

Oh, Willow, I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. It's the hardest thing, but the day they come into our lives we know the time will come one day that we'll have to let them go. It's the time between that that makes what we have with them so special. We give them everything and they give us unconditional love. It's always completely worth, am I right? Those memories of the happy times are so precious. They wait for us on the Rainbow Bridge, playing with other companion animals, until it's time for us to cross over, too.

Christmas before last I held our Maine Coon cat Jade while she breathed her last. It's the right thing to do. I agree with you. We should all be so kind to one another.

Here's hoping your heart feels better soon. That is the hardest part.

I know that feeling. I always sit with mine when I have to put them down...it's only fair and right...it is one of the hardest things to do, but afterward, I feel better knowing I was the last thing they saw.

Sorry about your lab...mine had arthritis real bad...such sweet dogs...

I worked for a vet for 5 years, so I learned that to sit with my animals as they had to be put down was the least I could do. It's very difficult, but if someone were doing that to you, wouldn't you want someone you loved there with you?

Only people who know their pets are family will understand...

This is a little corny, but it really helped me. Sorry Tom...

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

My heartfelt sympathy to you Mr Hanks

I have admired you & your work for many years and it goes without saying that our four-legged babies are so hard to lose. I have suffered great loss this year I've lost 3 very important women in my life my aunt, my mother& my maternal grandmother and I can tell you that through all the tears of sorrow & grief...my cats, many true friends & family are what's getting me through the darkest of days. Before I moved to Illinois from California to help care for my mother as cancer riddled her body I was a dog groomer and pet sitter. I had to put down one of my cats Aggie and to this day she rests on my bookshelf and on the other shelf are my mothers ashes as well.

Barb I've often qouted the Rainbow Bridge to pet parents and it has helped me with my own sadness in losing many beloved furry friends.

Mr Hanks, on a side note my brother life guarded you while you were filming the underwater scene from Angels and Demons at the Olympic Pool Belmont Shore, Long Beach , Ca. He said you couldn't have been more kind and a pretty decent swimmer...considering my brother swam with the likes of Mark Spitz, Rowdy Gaines, Tommy Jager and several other olympic athletes that is quite a compliment.

My deepest sympathy to you and your family.

Awwwww...I'm so sorry to hear this. I know how it feels. Monty was a big handsome boy, and I'm sure Tom will miss him so very much.

I lost one of my boys last year to cancer. I still miss him, badly. He was 128lbs. of fierce love. A person cannot find a more loyal, devoted, and loving friend than a dog.

@ Willow-369182, you, my friend, are a very compassionate person. We had a vet come out to our home to put our boy to rest. I wanted him surrounded by all the things he loved the best, including his companion dog. I held him with my hand over his heart and my face buried in his fur as he left this world. It's not easy, but it's the least we can do for them for all the years of love, and joy they brought to us.

After I read this, I did the same for my boy. He is with me all the time...in a locket, next to my heart.

        Old Dog in a Locket

Old dog in a locket That lies next to my heart
I will always love you As I did right from the start
You were right beside me Through the darkest of my days
It was your kind and gentle nature That made me want to stay

Now I hold you in my arms Your breath still warm against my hand
Our hearts still beat together And I wonder if you understand
Through the hours that I held you Before the light did leave your soul
I knew a way to keep you Forever in my hold

I snipped the hair from around your eyes So I would always see
The beauty that surrounds me Even in times of need
I snipped the hair from around your ears So I would always hear
Music in the distance To quiet any fears

I snipped the hair from across your back
To bring me strength in time of need
And the power of your essence Would always be with me
I snipped the hair from around your heart That beat in time with mine
So I would know that love would find me At some distant time

And so, your life slipped out of mine On a quiet spring like day
But I knew that a part of you Old dog in a locket
That lays next to my heart I will always love you
Even though we had to part

I know how you feel, in 2000, my Wolf passed on, she was a trained attack dog but she was also very loving towards her Family and children. She knew when to defend and when to love. We now have a Husky 12 years old and a Terrier 11 years old and ALL, of our Dogs are like Family, they come in when they wish to and even eat most of what we eat, they sleep with us in their own beds. The Wife and I call them our children and our Daughters calll them Sisters. Maybe we spoil our Dogs just a little to much but oh well, they're worth it. If you are going to have Dog's to start with, you should make them Family ;=)))

        Again, Sorry for your loss

I am so sorry for your loss. I know how painful this is.

On January 1 2010 I lost my 16 year old rescued Rotty to a general systems failure otherwise known as old age.. My other dog, a rescued doxsie named Penny, mourned with us and she only had him for 3 years in her life. So we decided to get another dog for her and about a month later we went to a shelter and adopted 2 more doxies-both rescues from a puppy mill.

The girl, Glacia, was about 4 and had multiple litters and had been impregnated using a rape stand. The boy, Huey, was about 10 and had been beaten frequently so he was afraid of men. We took them both home and spent many hours socializing them and playing with them and they became just the sweetest companions you can imagine.

But Glacia developed serious nerve problems in her spine and became paralyzed. The vet said it came from her being subjected to the rape stand so frequently and being bred to larger males-she was very small and delicate. Ultimately she couldn't be saved and we put her down after having her only 5 months. And finally, in December, just after Christmas, we had to put down our 20 year old rescured cat who could no longer eat and keep food down. She had stomach cancer and we did all we could to make the last year of her life as good as it could be.

All of these losses have been felt acutely by the whole family and many, many tears have been and still are shed, especially for Glacia who never really had a very fair shot at life and any hope for her was cut off way too soon.

If you know of a puppy mill, if you suspect that someone may be in that business, be a friend and report them to the ASPCA or your local police. You have no idea how many hearts get broken exacly the way ours did and what horror this poor creatures live in.

        Thank-you.

Satines, you are truly one of the angels! I am so sorry for the loss of your beloved animals. Thank goodness there are people like you (and the many posters here).

I second that plea to all those that are aware of puppy mills, please report them to the ASPCA, your local shelter, or the police. These places are horrible death breeding grounds run by sick, greedy inbref monsters that are the lowest form of life. These poor animals are tortured, maimed, starved, beaten, and worse. Unfortunately, our laws do little to punish these monsters, so you must take matters into your own hands. That is the only way to combat the problem. These people do not deserve to live.

Sorry to hear about the loss of Monty. I know how close one can be with a dog - it's incredible!!! I lost my Peanut Anne on April 27 last year. I was a total basket case for a long time and only now can I look at her picture or anything that reminds me of her. I was never a dog lover until I got her for protection - a tiny chihuahua puppy!!! We trained each other and she truly became my best friend. I'll miss her forever. I have a lump in my throat as I type this just thinking of her. God bless Tom and his family at this time of loss. To feel the loss of a beloved pet is the same as the loss assicated with losing your best friend

These pets love us from that first sweet kiss to that last, long look saying good bye

We will never ever forget them, but just let our unbroken love for each other grow each and every day in our hearts for the rest of our lives. Knowing that we will never lose sight of that message that our best friends gave to us, which is to love them as much as they loved us.

The Family Dog is as American as Apple Pie..

So many of us can relate to this loss for Tom..

It is saying goodbye to a Daughter of Son in a funny way...

WE here had Sampson.. A German Shepherd...

His last year was tough but he is a member of our Family and we did everything we could to make his life Normal... Even Got a Doggy Wheel chair and modified it for him...

He had lost his ability to use his hind end all together by this time...

We worked our asses off but it was worth it..

When the time came.. It was very apparent now..

The Vet came to the House..

Sam was very sick and just laid in his favorite spot by the Front door..

This was where the Vet let us say our tearful Goodbyes.. God it was so tough..

If Sam had to leave us?? At least he was with us at home..

Today Sam is still here as the Vet cremated his Body and placed him in a Beautiful Box for us to keep..

I also have his smiling face on my desk top so I can say good morning Sam every day...

Its like you have lost a small child that you have raised who struggled through life but never ever gives up...

I smile every day now when I think of Sam and all the smiles and laughs he brought to my Home..

God bless those who can relate and have suffered this kind of loss..
